NATURAL ENVIRONMENT

Located approximately 25 km north of the city of Limassol is the village of Agios Georgios, more widely known as Agios Georgios Sylikou or Agkathiotis.

The village is built on the left side of the Kourris valley, in a peaceful and picturesque environment and on an altitude of 490 metres above sea level. The village’s cultivations include black and sultana grapes, as well as grains, carob and almond trees.

However, what makes the area special is its impressive ground relief in combination with the wealth and diversity of the existing vegetation.

In the valley flows the River Kourris, a river rich in water which runs almost throughout the year. Along the river we get to see several platan trees, reed beds and other types of vegetation. Above the river banks appear the well-known garden pines, as well as other species of low bushy vegetation.

On a higher altitude wild vegetation gives its place to tree cultivations which include olive and almond trees, fruit trees such as apple and plum trees and finally vines.

In the surrounding mountains the pine forest and the wild vegetation blend harmonically with the rest of the natural environment, thus creating a beautiful and attractive setting. The entire scenery can offer somebody peace and rest, something which is difficult for contemporary people to find in the bustling cities.
